Position: Videographer (Part-Time)

Overview

The City of Lansing is seeking a part-time Videographer to join the Mayor's Office of Community Media. The ideal candidate will possess effective communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Elected Officials, other City employees, members of the media, and the public. This role involves media production, operation, maintenance and repair of production equipment, and processes for developing, editing, storing and distributing media products.

Special Requirements & Training
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Position requires that you work in person thirty (30) hours per week.
  • Must submit a "Demo Reel".
Ideal Candidates Will Possess The Following
  • Associates degree in communication arts, speech, television and radio, film, media arts, audio/video production, or a related field;
  • AND, one (1) year of professional experience in directing, producing, filming audio/video material for media production and release;
  • AND, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
Essential Position Functions
  • Sets up and films media events, City Council and board meetings, City educational programs and other production for broadcast on the City's television station and internet.
  • Sequences and edits production work for broadcast.
  • Keeps calendar of events and programs to be filmed.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest trends and advances in media technology.
  • Maintains and catalogs digital files and show masters.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to work.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs production equipment.

Benefits
  • Vision Insurance:
    Eligible for Blue Cross Blue Shield VSP 12/12/12 Vision Plan. Coverage begins the first of the month following hire.
  • Dental Insurance:
    Delta Dental coverage begins the first day of the month following 30 calendar days of service. Coverage includes employee and family members. 100% coverage for cleaning; 50% for treatment costs with a $1,500 maximum per person per contract year. Orthodontic coverage at 50% with a $3,000 lifetime maximum per person.
  • Personal Leave:
    Sixteen hours of personal leave annually on January 1 or at time of hire. Unused personal leave must be used by December 31 or forfeited.
  • Michigan Paid Medical Leave Act:
    Paid medical leave as applicable. Time accrues January 1 each year.
  • Parking/Transportation Subsidy:
    Monthly CATA bus pass or parking subsidy.
  • Deferred Compensation:
    Eligible for City 457 plans. Vendors include Aetna Life & Annuity and T. Rowe Price. Employee contributions up to applicable annual limits; minimum contribution often around $25 per pay period.
  • AFLAC:
    Eligible to participate; enroll within 30 days of hire or during Open Enrollment (May each year).
