The Pulmonary Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory and lung‑related conditions. This role involves providing expert care in both outpatient and inpatient settings, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive pulmonary care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting with symptoms of respiratory and lung diseases.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as pulmonary function tests (PFTs), chest X‑rays, CT scans, bronchoscopy, and other imaging modalities to diagnose conditions such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, lung cancer, and interstitial lung disease.
  • Treatment and Management:
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including inhalers, bronchodilators, and corticosteroids, as well as recommend lifestyle modifications to improve respiratory health.
  • Perform or supervise procedures such as bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, and pleural biopsies as required.
  • Patient Care and Monitoring:
  • Provide ongoing care and monitoring for patients with chronic pulmonary conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of treatments and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Consultation:
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including thoracic surgeons, radiologists, nurses, and primary care physicians, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and patient care conferences to determine the best course of treatment for complex cases.
