Job Title:

College Completion Coach or Advise Michigan Adviser

Compensation: $28,560 living stipend

Benefits: $5,176.50 post‑service education award, health, medical and dental insurance, childcare coverage to eligible candidates

Essential Functions

Michigan College Access Network (MCAN), in close partnership with Michigan colleges and universities, seeks to help more Michigan students pursue postsecondary education. MCAN’s College Completion Corps will place full‑time Ameri Corps members on community college campuses to supplement campus efforts to increase persistence and completion for students who have the most college success barriers. MCAN’s Advise MI advisers will place full‑time Ameri Corps members in selected high schools across Michigan, particularly those in communities with low college‑going rates and low adult educational attainment rates.

Commitment

Ameri Corps members will serve a minimum of 1,200 hours over an eleven‑month service year. The term of service is from September 1, 2026, through June 11, 2027. Members are expected to serve 37.5–40 hours per week. Candidates unwilling to commit to the full term should not apply.

Training

Ameri Corps members receive robust training in all areas; no previous experience is necessary. The program includes a mandatory orientation, some in‑person and virtual sessions in August, and the possibility of additional training or events throughout the term with all expenses covered. No more than 20% of total service hours may be spent in education and training activities.

Desired Skills
  • Ability to partner effectively with students, faculty, and staff, including those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong leadership abilities and/or experience influencing others to achieve goals.
  • Capability to serve independently and take initiative, exercising good judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects; strong planning, detail‑orientation and organizational skills.
  • High energy, creativity, and a willingness to assume responsibility.
Education and Eligibility

Applicants must be a United States citizen, national, or legal permanent resident, at least 18 years old, and have completed at least an associate degree in any major. Applicants must pass federal and state background screenings, live within 45 minutes of the service site, and have dependable transportation.
