Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Specialist Assistant (ECSA) supports the Early Childhood Specialist (ECS) team by providing services to Great Start Readiness (GSRP) and Head Start staff in local school districts, public school academies and community programs servicing at-risk 0-5 year old children. The Early Childhood Specialist Assistant (ECSA) will be assigned to a mentor Early Childhood Specialist (ECS) and assist in the support of their assigned classrooms.

This position will support the ECS in the classroom and in all accompanying systems including developmental screening and child assessment, classroom assessments. Promoting positive School Climate, professional development, data analysis and collaborative consultation with staff, agency personnel and administrators.

Essential Duties
  • Makes contact with all assigned programs as assigned by ECS.
  • Provides support and guidance to GSRP teachers regarding curriculum, licensing and program implementation as directed by the assigned ECS.
  • Observes students in GSRP/Head Start classrooms and makes recommendations with approval of the assigned ECS regarding strategies to utilize and support the student’s needs and referrals for support services.
  • Conducts periodic program and assists teachers in developing program quality improvement goals, provides observation, feedback and follow up in conjunction with the assigned ECS.
  • Consults with teachers regarding appropriate child assessment tools, development of child goals and strategies for planning for individual needs and scaffolding of learning for students in conjunction with the assigned ECS.
  • Supports planning and provision of professional development with GSRP/Head Start teachers and other early childhood program staff in the community.
  • Assists teachers to complete all necessary applications and reports required by Michigan Department of Education and Genesee Intermediate School District.
  • Supports all GSRP/Head Start programs to meet expectations of GSRP/Head Start and follows required guidelines.
  • Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with a ZA/ZS endorsement and enrolled in an Early Childhood or related field Master’s program required.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience. Training in and experience working with preschool or early childhood curriculums. Knowledge of Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-K (ECSQ-PK) and CLASS assessment preferred. Training certifications and/or experience in administering tools, such as CLASS, ASQ or other developmental assessment preferred.

Skills & Other

Ability to work effectively, make decisions and problem solve collaboratively within a team and in partnership with local district and agency staff. Ability to interact in sensitive and/or complex situations and to make effective presentations before groups. Proficiency with oral and written communication. Evidence of accurate record keeping, financial management and data collection skills. Ability to utilize district technology, and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district.

Ability to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals. Maintains a positive working relationship with parents/guardians and staff. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday, work week, and work year. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Ability to travel to and from district buildings/programs as required. Discretion with confidential information.

Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines.
