Careers/Study Skills Instructor (Full‑time, 12‑month salaried position)

Hybrid – Lansing Office, Lansing, MI |
Working hours:
8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday‑Friday.
Salary: $46,000 – $49,000 annually.
Applicants must hold an NT (Michigan teaching) certification in their specific content area and be a Michigan resident.
Position SummaryPlans, organizes, and delivers instructional programs aligned to Michigan state standards within an online, standards‑aligned environment. Provides academic support to approximately 400 students per year across multiple courses and content areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Electives, World Language). Works primarily from home but attends in‑person meetings at the Lansing office 2–5 days per month.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Design, prepare, and deliver instructional activities and supplemental materials that facilitate engaged learning for all students in assigned content area(s).
- Communicate regularly with staff, students, parents, and school personnel during business hours, responding within 24 hours.
- Collaborate face‑to‑face and virtually with Michigan Virtual staff weekly (or as needed) to monitor and adjust curriculum and instruction based on student needs.
- Provide feedback, grading, and assessment of student work within 72 hours (96 hours for ELA, AP, and select social studies courses).
- Maintain accurate records of students’ progress, including assessments, evaluations, and participation in online discussions.
- Develop and nurture a virtual classroom culture, including weekly course announcements.
- Update all required records accurately and completely as per law and school regulations, including special education documentation.
- Prepare monthly progress updates, attendance reports, and academic reports, submitting final term scores within one week of term end.
- Participate actively in Michigan Virtual instructional meetings, department meetings, and annual professional development events.
- Recommend revisions to courses, revise course content, and contribute to course curriculum improvement projects.
- Develop and present professional development materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Leverage AI tools appropriately to enhance efficiency and creativity while ensuring accuracy, ethics, and data privacy.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- All responsibilities are subject to performance goals and targets established annually.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Valid Michigan Certificate for secondary instruction in a specific content area, designated as Highly Qualified.
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching at the middle or high school level.
- Additional experience in curriculum alignment, curriculum writing, or prior online teaching experience.
Education and/or Experience
- Master’s degree or higher preferred.
- Successful experience teaching online or in a blended learning environment preferred.

- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Typical office and/or classroom setting, primarily seated while working at a computer.
- Low to moderate noise level.
- Requirement to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
- Criminal fingerprinting background check (conducted by outside party).
- Pre‑employment substance abuse testing, if requested.
- Provide photocopy of valid driver’s license for tax purposes.
- Present Social Security Card for name verification and payroll purposes.
- Sign Non‑disclosure and Confidentiality Agreement and Acceptable Use Policy for Computing Resources.
