The Role
Assists teachers in district classrooms for the cognitively impaired and/or physically impaired by performing a variety of duties designed to carry out individual student education programs and positive behavioral support.
- Assists in daily classroom routines and facilitates students participation in all activities including but not limited to: self-care, mobility, ambulation, defined health procedures, and swimming.
- Implements classroom and/or individual student behavior intervention strategies under the direction of classroom teachers.
- May operate various lifts, instructional or adaptive equipment and assistive technology devices.
- High school graduate or GED recipient.
- Prefer 2 years successful experience as a paraprofessional in a program for youth with physical and/or cognitive impairments or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrates continuous learning as it relates to instructional, behavioral and therapeutic interventions for assigned students.
