Utilize the Gradual Release of Responsibility model to build student confidence, critical thinking, and ownership of their reading and writing growth. - Collaborative Teaming:
Actively participate in High-Performing Groups (HPGs), engaging in collective inquiry, data analysis, and instructional calibration with your middle school grade-level and content-area colleagues. - Whole-Child Support:
Support the whole child by engaging with our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and utilizing district tools (such as Wayfinder) to foster student well-being, purpose, and behavioral regulation. - Assessment & Growth:
Assess and evaluate student growth through varied formative and summative methods, utilizing data to guide instruction and celebrate student success. - Classroom Culture:
Create an inclusive, welcoming classroom environment that encourages student voice, models positive behavior, and fosters a lifelong love for reading and writing. - Differentiation:
Provide individualized support and targeted feedback to help every student grow their literacy skills, ensuring the needs of diverse learners are met. - Community Engagement:
Partner with Reed City families and guardians through regular, positive communication regarding student progress and classroom activities. - Professional Growth:
Actively participate in RCAPS professional development to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational trends. - School Involvement:
Be an active presence in our school community by supporting school events, parent-teacher conferences, and staff collaborations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field.
- Valid State of Michigan teaching certification to teach middle school English Language Arts.
Note:
Candidates holding traditional Secondary/Middle School English or Language Arts [BA/BX] endorsements, the new Middle Grades [5-9] ELA [BQ] band, or the Upper Elementary [3-6] [ZP] band are all encouraged to apply. Placement in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade will be determined by candidate strengths and specific certification limits. - Experience teaching middle school students (or a strong desire to work with this specific age group) is highly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of ELA curriculum, balanced literacy, and effective instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students, colleagues, and the broader Reed City community.
- Proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Proficiency in using educational technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- A genuine commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and community-focused classroom culture.
