In pursuit of this mission, we are looking to hire a Special Education Testing Teacher Consultant. The SE Testing TC provides academic, behavioral, and special education support services to students, staff, and families. This position collaborates with school teams to support at‑risk learners through intervention planning, data monitoring, consultation, and multidisciplinary evaluation processes. Responsibilities include supporting problem‑solving and Child Study Teams, assisting with special education referrals and evaluations, monitoring student progress, communicating intervention plans, and ensuring compliance with IDEA, MARSE, district procedures, and required timelines.

The role also provides consultation to staff regarding accommodations, behavioral supports, instructional strategies, and educational programming to promote student success within the least restrictive environment.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree and prior approval as a Teacher Consultant by the Michigan Department of Education
  • Learning disability and emotional impairment experience preferred
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, knowledge of assessments and diagnosis and research related to learning, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current rules and regulations regarding Child Study Teams and special education assessment and program requirements.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
  • Participate in faculty, school, parent, and community meetings and programs with the intent to share available resources.
  • Conduct or provide staff development sessions to promote an increased competency and increase student participation in academic success.
Job Responsibilities Student Support and Intervention Responsibilities
  • Must be able to meet timelines and monthly deadlines.
  • Assist families with finding necessary resources.
  • Monitor students’ data to demonstrate academic and behavioral growth.
  • Develop and monitor goals for students and the criteria for success.
  • Communicate individual plans for students to staff to facilitate a whole school approach to student improvement.
  • Work in collaboration with school administration to address the needs of our most at‑risk learners, with the focus on improving academics.
  • Provide staff with essential information to develop interventions for academic and behavioral success.
  • Support problem‑solving teams and Child Study Teams through consultation, data review, and intervention planning.
  • Identify and report child abuse and neglect.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Evaluation and Consultation Responsibilities
  • Support the special education referral, evaluation, and reevaluation process in compliance with IDEA, MARSE, district procedures, and required timelines.
  • Coordinate and participate in multidisciplinary evaluation team (MET) processes, including the review of existing evaluation data and assessment planning.
  • Conduct educational evaluations and assist in gathering, interpreting, and communicating assessment data to determine student eligibility and educational needs.
