About the Department

MDE provides leadership, resources, support, and guidance to the school district staff and students in Michigan.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing, administering, and reporting on assessment programs
• Jointly developing and maintaining content standards with the Office of Educational Standards (OES)
• Electronically housing the libraries of content standards developed jointly with OES
• Developing achievement standards (e.g., proficiency standards or cut scores) for the assessment programs it sponsors
• Operating the Formative Assessment for Michigan Educators (FAME)
• Program and data management of all OEAA projects
• Management of all OEAA systems (Secure Site, Item Bank System, etc.)
• Responding to assessment and accountability reports and state analysis requests

Some positions may require a current or past possession of a Michigan teacher’s certificate or a comparable certification.
