Job Overview
The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK‑12 students across 25 school buildings in the diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. We are hiring a Specialized Assistant to help ensure the safety and success of students in the building they are assigned to, especially those with Mildly Cognitively Impaired needs. The role involves building relationships with students, supporting teachers during lessons, and interacting with parents and families.
Key Responsibilities- Build relationships with Mildly Cognitively Impaired students.
- Support teachers by ensuring students are engaged and supported during lessons.
- Interact with parents and families to maintain open communication.
- Ensure safety and success of students in the assigned building.
- Prioritize tasks as assigned by teachers and school leaders.
- Incorporate feedback from leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions.
- Complete other duties as assigned to best support the district’s mission.
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
- 60 completed college credits.
- Proof of passing the ETS Paraprofessional Exam.
- Previous experience working with students in small group and RTI settings.
- Understanding of how to read and understand a student’s IEP.
- Desire to become a certified teacher long term.
- Demonstrated passion for working with students, especially one‑on‑one and small group, and those with special education needs.
- Effectively prioritize tasks as assigned by teachers and school leaders.
- Ensure safety of students on caseload.
- Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from leaders, colleagues, students, and PD sessions.
- Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
- Complete other duties as assigned to best support the mission.
