Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and creative Theatre/Art Teacher to inspire students through dynamic instruction in acting, stagecraft, and performance. This role offers the opportunity to lead a vibrant theatre program, fostering students’ artistic expression, collaboration, and confidence both on and off the stage.
ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the theatre program, providing instruction in theatre and arts subjects, fostering student collaboration and confidence both on and off the stage.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in theatre, performing arts, music, or music education required (or related field)
- Michigan Teacher Certification in Art, Music, or English strongly preferred
- Previous successful experience teaching in an urban high school environment
- Previous performing arts experience
- Previous experience putting on large scale drama productions in a school or community theatre environment
- Knowledge of restorative justice practices
- Knowledge of stagecraft and dramatic production
- Must be able to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
- Frequent verbal communication is required to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families.
- May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties.
- Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students.
- Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication.
- Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
