Position Overview

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK‑12 students across 25 school buildings in the diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver world‑class physical education and health instruction focused on the teacher’s specialty.
  • Create inclusive, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and collaborate toward common learning goals.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents, and students to provide the best educational experience.
  • Use data to guide and differentiate instruction effectively.
  • Participate in professional development and incorporate feedback from school leaders, colleagues, and students.
  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the district’s mission.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or physical movement (e.g., kinesiology).
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Alignment with the district’s mission and values.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a specialty endorsement (e.g., MX, MA, MB, MC, MD, MH).
  • Previous teaching experience in an urban setting.
  • Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies.
  • Demonstrated passion for and expertise in physical education and health.
  • Proficiency in using data to guide instruction and differentiate learning.
Physical Demands
  • Move throughout building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
  • Frequent verbal communication for instruction, meetings, and collaboration.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties.
  • Bend, reach, or sit on the floor to interact with students as needed.
  • Use computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication.
  • Lift or carry instructional materials and supplies up to 25 pounds.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
