The teacher is responsible for ensuring that every student is academically and socially ready for college or career and to equip all students with knowledge, skills, and motivation that empowers them to direct their lives and become confident, critical thinkers who will contribute to a changing community. This position reports directly to the assigned building/program principal.

- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality instruction aligned to the Michigan Academic Standards for Visual Arts and district curriculum.
- Develop lessons that encourage creativity, problem-solving, self-expression, and artistic growth for students with diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Teach a variety of artistic techniques, media, and processes, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, mixed media, digital art, and design as appropriate tograde level.
- Differential instruction to support the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and artistic needs of all learners.
- Utilize formative and summative assessments tomonitorstudent progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintainaccuraterecords of student progress and communicate achievement with students and families.
- Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance instruction and student creativity when appropriate.
- Foster student responsibility inthe care, organization, and safe use of art materials and equipment.
- Create andmaintaina classroom culture that is welcoming, respectful, inclusive, and conducive to learning.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior and classroom procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe art classroom and storage areas.
- Ensure appropriate inventory, care, and maintenance of art supplies, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Promote safe practices in the use of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, instructional coaches, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), district professional development, staff meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardiansregardingstudent progress, classroom activities, and exhibitions.
- Assistin displaying student artwork throughout school buildings and at district or community events.
- Support school programs and activities that promote student engagement and school pride.
- Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness in order toexecute the duties ofjob.
- Serve as a role model for all students and withinschoolcommunity.
- Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
- Encourage the team spirit and contribute as a team member in the decision-making processes of the school asfacilitatedby the building administrator.
