Additional Insights
  • What is a typical breakdown:
Attend daily safety and quality meetings. Inspect assembly lines for any quality concerns. Check previous shift’s defect data, scrap reports, and First Time Quality (FTQ) performance. Investigate issues flagged by operators or automated systems. Work with Manufacturing Engineers, Maintenance, and Operators to resolve problems. Validate incoming parts meet specifications. Update processes or documentation based on findings. Perform layered process audits and ensure adherence to Global Manufacturing System (GMS) standards.

Document quality performance and communication to leadership. Support SPQRCE principles (Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, Environment).
  • Is this role primarily focused on body structure dimensional engineering, or does it also cover other components? Mainly body shop. We do collaborate with GA partners.
  • How much time will be spent on hands‑on analysis versus cross‑functional collaboration and leadership?
80% spends on hands on compared cross functional
  • Will this engineer be responsible for developing dimensional control plans from scratch or improving existing ones?
They will be maintaining the existing ones
    .
  • Which tools and software are most critical for dimensional analysis (e.g., CAD, CMM, GD&T tools)?
We do more with GD&T and Polly Works (training will be provided, but it’s a bonus if they are experienced in Polly Works).
  • Are candidates expected to have experience with PFMEA specifically for dimensional deviations, or will training be provided?
    No, training will be provided.
  • What level of people management is expected—leading projects or supervising direct reports?
Little combination of both, but more so experience leading projects is what will be asked during the interview.
  • What communication style works best in this plant environment?
Mostly cell phones, radio, and email. Winning candidate needs to be comfortable working together as a team.
  • Top 3 must-have hard skills
  • Level of experience with each
  • Stack‑ranked by importance
