Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Transportation/Roadway Engineer to join our Lansing team and support MDOT roadway and bridge projects across Michigan. This is a hands‑on technical role for engineers who enjoy producing high‑quality designs, solving complex roadway and drainage challenges, and mentoring junior staff—while contributing to impactful transportation infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Roadway & Civil Design- Develop design criteria, geometric layouts, alignments, superelevation, and detailed roadway calculations.
- Produce construction plans and proposal packages in accordance with MDOT’s Plan Development Guide and Design Wiki.
- Apply advanced 3D modeling techniques to deliver accurate, high‑quality roadway designs.
- Perform production‑level design using Bentley Micro Station and MDOT Open Roads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition.
- Prepare special provisions, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
- Conduct fieldwork to evaluate existing conditions and support design decisions.
- Complete drainage studies, storm sewer design, stormwater management, and BMP implementation.
- Perform hydraulic analysis and modeling for bridges and culverts, including scour evaluations.
- Develop Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) in accordance with MDOT’s Work Zone Safety and Mobility Manual.
- Design traffic control plans that promote safe, efficient construction and mobility.
- Ensure work meets high standards through adherence to corporate QA/QC procedures.
- Support proposal development and contribute technical input for RFP responses.
- Participate in industry events and assist with business development efforts.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers, providing technical guidance and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 7 years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Micro Station & Open Roads:
Production‑level proficiency with Bentley Micro Station and MDOT Open Roads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition. - Work Zone Safety:
Strong understanding of Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) per MDOT’s Workzone Safety and Mobility Manual. - Hydraulics & Scour Analysis:
Experience in hydraulic analysis and modeling for bridges and culverts, including scour evaluation. - Drainage Design:
Skilled in drainage studies, storm sewer design, stormwater management, and Best Management Practices (BMPs).
