As the Ground Test Engineering Manager, you will direct a team of Design, Structural, and Manufacturing engineers through the complete product lifecycle of test equipment assemblies. Your responsibilities include:
- Lead a team of employee and contract engineers in design, development, production, and field issue resolution of complex aerospace engine ground‑testing equipment.
- Oversee the design, analysis, and evaluation of project assemblies, ensuring adherence to engineering principles, industry standards, and program requirements.
- Develop manufacturing processes and ensure manufacturability of component designs, documenting and presenting results to management and external customers.
- Assist shop floor personnel as needed.
- Conduct root cause and corrective action investigations for nonconforming hardware.
- Support vendor management through reviews of quotes and modification requests.
- Participate in cost‑of‑poor‑quality initiatives, challenge existing processes, and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain relationships with external design authorities, manage design changes, and resolve fleet‑wide quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with engineering methodologies and use sound judgment to solve moderately complex tasks.
- Develop engineering project plans, establish work packages, milestones, and objectives to support program management.
- Communicate and present technical information to internal and external customers.
- Mentor and coach the engineering team.
- Advanced degree with 7+ years of experience in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Aerospace or Aftermarket industry; OR Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
- At least 2 years of management experience leading, mentoring, coaching, and developing a team.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with mechanical design and composite manufacturing (e.g., machining, joints, fasteners, welding) in aerospace, defense, automotive, or similar sectors.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM field; manufacturing or industrial engineering background. - Experience with advanced composite and bonded structures design and manufacturing (organic/polymer matrix composites, fiber reinforcement, adhesive technologies).
- Proficiency with fiber‑reinforced polymer composites such as fiberglass, aramid, carbon prepreg, and wet layup, especially epoxy resin systems.
- Familiarity with non‑destructive testing techniques (ultrasonic, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, X‑ray).
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing & assembly, product development, make/buy analysis, manufacturing cost, and configuration management.
- Experience using MS Office Suite, SAP ERP, Solumina MES, and CAD software (Creo/Windchill, NX, Fiber
SIM, Team Center). - Leadership of cross‑functional teams and project management skills; PMP certification preferred.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools (CORE/ACE/Six Sigma, QCPC, RCCA).
- Excellent presentation and communication skills across all levels.
