Be responsible for developing manufacturing processes and tooling design for composite parts fabrication using approved models and drawings. Support production activities, troubleshoot issues, and implement process improvements to ensure efficient and high-quality manufacturing for the three to six month build schedules. May be tasked with evaluating any damage from normal operations by customers and developing repairs to restore the assembly or components to original or acceptable requirements.
Responsibilities- Create written and illustrated manufacturing instructions, bills of material and outside purchase specifications per engineering drawings/specifications.
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes and tooling for composite parts.
- Work with production teams to ensure manufacturability and suggest improvements.
- Train production staff in new processes and techniques.
- Provide manufacturing support to design throughout conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases, to include validation, customer approval, manufacturing, and operational service.
- Support design with material selection based on usability and compatibility with current processes and equipment.
- Review and disposition nonconforming material to technical requirements.
- Develop and validate repair processes in conjunction with design team.
- Contribute to Cost of Poor Quality efforts, challenge existing processes, and drive improvements.
- Ensure compliance with established engineering methodologies.
- Use sound engineering judgment, technical expertise, and data analysis to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems.
- A STEM university degree.
- 10+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Effective problem identification and solution skills.
- Strong project ownership, execution, and proactive mentality.
- Experience with mechanical manufacturing processes (machining, joints, fasteners, welding) in aerospace, defense, automotive or similar industries.
- Experience with GD&T and print interpretation.
- Experience with fiber‑reinforced polymer composites, specifically fiberglass, aramid, and/or carbon prepreg and wet layup (especially epoxy resin systems).
- Experience in advanced composite and bonded structures manufacturing (fiber reinforcement, curing, ovens and autoclaves, adhesives, surface preparation, etc.).
- Computer Aided Design Software experience:
Creo/Windchill (Preferred) or NX/Fiber
SIM/Team Center. - Familiarity with Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, X‑ray and others used in aerospace.
- Experience with design for manufacturing & assembly.
- Understanding of manufacturing cost and reproducibility.
- Experience with implementation of PFMEAs.
