About the Role

As part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, the Central Region Transit Market Sector Leader supports the development and execution of transit and rail market strategies across the Central Region. The primary duty of the role includes partnering with regional management and the Global Transit Market Sector Director to develop and execute transit and rail market strategies throughout the Central Region.

This role shapes systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably, directly supporting economic vitality and public safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multi-discipline projects and programs, providing strategic project and program leadership, senior technical support, quality oversight, best practice development, and principal-level program/project management.
  • Drive program growth for transit, intercity, and freight rail market sectors, supporting client relationships, recruiting, staff development, and major pursuit coordination, including pre-proposal visitations, proposal preparation, presentations, and negotiations.
  • Assist the Global Transit Market Sector Director with setting vision to expand services and win contracts, supporting continuous improvement of the market and professional development of staff.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation planning and/or engineering within the market sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, or a related field.
  • Engineering registration if applicable.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
  • Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and pursuing program and/or project opportunities.
  • Experience in staff development, including recruiting and career path planning.
  • Active involvement in industry associations with a visible market profile.
  • Ability to work cooperatively across sectors and business groups.
  • Commitment to HDR values and participation in the employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15 years of leading transit engineering and planning services for major transportation infrastructure development.
  • Experience with major capital programs from planning through design and construction for private, federal, state, and local clients.
  • Deep client relationships with transit and rail agencies or private entities in the Central Region and proven track record.
  • Experience with transit funding programs and eligibility requirements.
  • Experience developing strategic marketing programs for the transportation industry.

Typical starting pay ranges:

  • Colorado: $162,205 - $210,430 annually
  • Minnesota: $174,342 - $249,060 annually
  • Illinois: $174,342 - $249,060 annually
