Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, testing, integration, and commissioning of industrial machine-vision applications.
- Review customer requirements and determine the technical feasibility, risks, limitations, and appropriate inspection methodology for machine-vision applications.
- Define machine-vision system architecture and select appropriate cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, 3D sensors, computing hardware, and related equipment.
- Perform optical calculations and determine appropriate field of view, resolution, working distance, depth of field, exposure, and lighting requirements.
- Develop, optimize, and validate 2D and 3D machine-vision inspections using commercial vision platforms and/or image-processing libraries.
- Develop inspection solutions involving image acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, measurement, pattern matching, segmentation, surface inspection, and defect detection.
- Plan and perform laboratory feasibility studies using representative production samples and define the operating limitations of proposed inspection methods.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving optics, lighting, image processing, software, networking, electrical systems, mechanical conditions, timing, vibration, and automation interfaces.
- Lead machine debugging, runoff, installation, commissioning, and production-launch activities related to machine vision.
- Communicate directly with customers and internal project teams regarding inspection performance, technical risks, application limitations, required changes, and project status.
- Travel to customer manufacturing facilities as required for testing, installation, debugging, runoff, commissioning, and production support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in machine vision, industrial automation, robotics, computer vision, or a closely related technical field.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop and commission industrial machine-vision systems.
- Strong understanding of digital imaging, optics, and machine-vision fundamentals, including resolution, exposure, focus, field of view, working distance, depth of field, contrast, sensor characteristics, and image formation.
- Strong understanding of machine-vision lighting techniques and their application to diffuse, textured, reflective, and difficult-to-image surfaces.
- Experience selecting and configuring industrial cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, sensors, and related vision hardware.
- Experience developing 2D and/or 3D inspection applications using commercial machine-vision platforms or image-processing libraries.
- Experience integrating machine-vision systems with PLCs, robots, HMIs, motion systems, or other industrial automation equipment.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes across optical, software, electrical, networking, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to independently perform technical feasibility evaluations and communicate application limitations and risks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical issues with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel to customer manufacturing facilities and support equipment installation, testing, runoff, commissioning, and production launch.
- Experience with Zebra Aurora Vision Studio, Cognex Vision Pro, Keyence, HALCON, or similar machine-vision platforms
.
- Experience with advanced imaging techniques such as photometric stereo, polarization, HDR imaging, telecentric optics and similar.
- Experience developing multi-camera or distributed machine-vision systems.
- Experience with deep-learning-based machine-vision inspection.
- Automotive or manufacturing experience.
- A3 Certified Vision Professional (CVP) – Advanced certification.
