Job PurposeThe Principal, Product Tax is responsible for product tax compliance and the accuracy of tax information in product related materials, and informational tax reporting.
- Monitors tax law changes and assists in developing plans to respond to changes that impact policy owner reporting requirements.
- Reviews product related materials concerning tax-related items for accuracy.
- Designs and implements new products or changes to existing products for compliance with product tax laws.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with executives and colleagues across the Jackson organization.
- Develops the Policyholder Tax team.
- Manages responses to requests (both written and verbal) from policyholders, agents, associates and government entities concerning policyholder tax information.
- Coordinates with Legal department on product tax legal issues.
- Manages the process of preparing various tax form mailings, transmittals of this information to governmental entities and related activities.
- Manages the auditing of tax extracts to identify, investigate and correct potential tax reporting errors.
- Manages internal tax reporting audits of policyholder administrative systems and monitors these systems and their related procedures to identify and address potential tax issues.
- Approves the daily submission of policyholder federal and state withholding.
- Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Knowledge of tax laws relevant to annuity and life products.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex tax principles in a compelling manner to a diverse set of recipients.
- Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
- Ability to understand how relevant tax laws apply to our products and the administrative systems that house these products.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Positive, results-oriented attitude.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues around the organization and with internal and external contacts. Must be client service focused.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Advanced degree preferred.
8+ years of related experience, preferably in annuity and life product tax compliance or tax law, required.
