The City of Lansing’s Treasury Department is looking for a detailed-oriented professional with a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations to join their team. As an Income Tax Auditor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of income tax returns.
Qualifications For This Position Consist Of- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- And three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience to include tax preparation (individual and corporate) auditing and accounting
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Assists and work with taxpayers to ensure all taxes are paid pursuant to the tax code. Enters and retrieves wide range of information using the City’s income tax software system.
- Coordinates and, in some cases conducts, tax returns audits.
- Accumulates data needed for the collection of delinquent income taxes and submits this information to the Collection Investigators or outside collection agency.
- Provides taxpayer assistance with income tax forms.
- Prepares tax statements for questionable returns from fail-to-respond files including final assessment and penalty and interest charges.
