A Look into Your Day

You will begin your experience as a credit intern alongside a group of driven college students who are excited to learn what a career in banking and finance is all about. During the summer, you will work full-time and participate in extensive commercial credit training in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After completing your training, you'll work closely with credit analysts and lenders to learn how businesses operate and how commercial lending decisions are made.

As you develop your skills, you will analyze client financial information and learn how factors such as cash flow, collateral, and guarantor support influence credit decisions. You'll also gain exposure to the written and verbal communication skills required to support a growing commercial lending team and build strong business relationships.

Throughout your year-long internship, you'll have the opportunity to explore what a career in commercial banking looks and feels like. You may participate in job shadows throughout the bank, connect with professionals across multiple departments, and engage in community and networking events.

You will receive regular coaching and mentorship from your manager and colleagues, providing valuable guidance as you continue your education and begin planning your career. The most successful credit interns enjoy understanding how businesses operate, solving problems, and continuously learning. They are naturally inquisitive and enjoy digging into financial information to understand what drives a company's success.

This internship is ideal for someone who is analytical and detail-oriented but also interested in developing relationship-building and communication skills. Whether your future path leads to commercial lending, business development, or another area of banking, you should be excited by the opportunity to learn how strong financial analysis supports meaningful client relationships and business growth.
