Job Description:
This is a paraprofessional position, the primary focus of which is the interstate and international enforcement of child support orders. The Case Management Assistant (Intergovernmental) receives, analyzes and evaluates incoming documents for registration of other states’ support orders and prepares and serves appropriate pleadings; also prepares appropriate documents and pleadings for the registration of Michigan support orders in other jurisdictions. The position also maintains communication with other states and countries regarding support enforcement and modifications.
Employees must meet the minimum requirements and conditions of employment and be able to perform successfully all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation. This position may require irregular hours and may also require travel by the employee in his/her own vehicle.
EXAMPLES OF WORK Prepares cases for interstate and international enforcement, both out-going and in-coming, under the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) and other laws involving interstate and international child support enforcement.
Assists case managers with support enforcement activities and communicates extensively with other agencies.
Locates noncustodial parents using various information sources and conducts address verifications and postal checks.
Prepares pleadings and processes cases for interstate transfers.
Conducts financial audits of child support accounts for accuracy of balances.
Prepares and modifies income withholding notices and communicates with sources of income, including tribal courts and other agencies.
Reviews and maintains current records; acquires knowledge of changes in laws and procedures regarding interstate/intergovernmental enforcement of child support.
Work is done using the Michigan Child Support Information System (MiCSES) which involves extensive data entry and updating of case information.
Attends intergovernmental enforcement meetings and seminars to keep current on laws and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Associate degree (2 years) in paralegal, law enforcement or human resources.
One to two years of related experience (law firm/prior court position).ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT SA criminal background check will be required initially and periodically for an individual hired, transferred, reclassified, promoted or currently working in this job. The 13th Circuit Court Friend of the Court Policy for Criminal Background Checks is available from Friend of the Court. Appointment to or continued employment in this job is contingent upon a satisfactory background check which may include but is not limited to: confirmation of a persons’ identity;
review of criminal conviction records; verification of educational degree, license, or certificate required for the position; review of Department of Motor Vehicles records;
Department of Justice fingerprint scan; and/or drug and alcohol testing as required and allowable by law. A satisfactory background check is defined as the absence of a criminal history record which bears a demonstrable relationship to the applicant's or employee's suitability to perform the required duties and responsibilities of the position.
Employees in this job are expected to work independently and receive minimal supervision. Work is carried out according to standard practice or general instructions without continuous and direct control.
