Departmental Technician 7-E9 (Parole Discharge Unit Technician) | State of Michigan The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State of Michigan, located in Lansing, MI, with an option for a hybrid work schedule after an initial two-week in-person training period. This position is vital to the Michigan Department of Corrections’ operations, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of critical information related to parole violations and offender returns.
The work directly contributes to maintaining public safety and the integrity of the state’s correctional system.

To ensure the accurate and timely processing of parole violation returns, out-of-state offender management, extensions, and special conditions, supporting effective parole supervision and public safety. - Tech Stack:
Corrections Offender Management System (COMS), Offender Management System (OMS), Offender Management Network Information (OMNI), Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), Share Point
- Parole Violation Processing:
Process daily parole violation returns and forward necessary information to the RGC, Parole Violation Unit for revocation processing. - Out-of-State Offender Management:
Manage the return of offenders arrested out of state by contacting law enforcement agencies, obtaining police reports, and gathering disposition information. - Administrative Actions:
Issue warrants, file detainers, enter parole violation charges, and schedule transportation for out-of-state offenders. - Conditions Management:
Process extensions and special conditions as requested by field staff. - Public and Staff Support:
Assist in scheduling offenders ordered to IDRP and respond to daily calls and email inquiries from law enforcement agencies, FOA field staff, and the general public.
- Background:
Education typically acquired through completion of high school. - Experience:
- Departmental Technician 7:
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service OR completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits). - Departmental Technician 8:
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service OR one year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service OR possession of a Bachelor’s degree. - Departmental Technician E9:
One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service OR one year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service OR two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service OR possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience.

- Skills:
Proficiency in utilizing Corrections Offender Management System (COMS), Offender Management System (OMS), Offender Management Network Information (OMNI), Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), and SharePoint; strong administrative support capabilities, and effective communication skills for daily inquiries.
