Departmental Analyst -P11

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is seeking an individual to work in public service as an Insurance Investigator in its Office of Insurance Licensing, Investigations, and Audits. This position serves as an investigator responsible for reviewing and investigating allegations of unlicensed insurance activity, misconduct by licensed individuals and entities, and other potential violations of the Michigan Insurance Code, applicable rules, and other laws administered by DIFS. Investigations may involve insurance producers, agencies, adjusters, insurers, and other regulated individuals and entities.

The investigator reviews complaints and referrals, gathers and analyzes records and other evidence, conducts interviews, conducts research regarding licensing and regulatory information, and evaluates the information obtained to identify potential violations. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate investigative case files and preparing clear, comprehensive written reports documenting investigative findings and recommendations for appropriate regulatory or enforcement action.

The position works collaboratively with DIFS legal staff, other state and federal regulatory agencies, law enforcement agencies, and other governmental entities. Investigators may participate in compliance conferences and may appear and testify regarding their investigations at administrative hearings or court proceedings.

This position requires strong analytical, investigative, organizational, interviewing, and written communication skills, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment while managing multiple investigations and competing priorities.
