Position: QC Technician I

Position Schedule

Monday‑Friday 7:00am‑3:30pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex assays with a microbiology focus in accordance with standard test procedures (STPs) or standard operating procedures (SOPs). These assays may include, but are not limited to, microbial enumeration, identification, sterility testing, and environmental monitoring.
  • Perform routine chemical, immunochemical, and/or biological assays as needed.
  • Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) guidelines, and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines with an emphasis on quality testing.
  • Assist in the development of new quality control procedures, with a strong focus on testing and product release.
  • Help with special projects assigned by the Lab Manager, often involving investigations or method development.
  • Perform equipment qualification, ensuring suitability of equipment for relevant testing.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to streamline routine activities and troubleshoot manufacturing and quality control issues, especially those involving contamination or control.
  • Meet individual and departmental goals and objectives, maintaining high standards.

  • Microbiology Experience
    :
    Solid understanding of microbiological principles, techniques, and quality control practices; proficiency in aseptic technique and laboratory methods (e.g., operating autoclaves, incubators, pipettes); attention to detail to ensure sterility and data accuracy.

    :
    Identify and resolve problems promptly and skillfully, particularly those related to technical issues or contamination sources; possess the technical competence to perform job duties accurately and efficiently.

Qualifications
  • Education and Experience
    :
    Minimum of an associate's degree in a science‑related field and 1–2years of relevant microbiology laboratory experience, OR high school diploma with some college coursework in microbiology or related science field and 3years of microbiology laboratory technician experience (preferably in a quality control setting), OR bachelor's degree in microbiology or related science field with microbiology experience highly preferred.
  • Language Skills
    :
    Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence in English, including safety rules, work instructions, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines; ability to read computer screens and software used for microbiological data analysis; clear and informative oral and written communication, including numerical data presentation.
  • Mathematical Skills
    :
    Perform routine college‑level mathematical operations, including statistical functions relevant to microbiological data analysis (e.g., CFU calculations, growth curves).
  • Computer Skills
    :
    Solid knowledge of computers and operating systems; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), especially Excel for data analysis and charting microbiological results; ability to communicate electronically.
  • Physical Demands
    :
    Regularly see, talk, or hear; frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift or move up to 25pounds; specific vision abilities include high visual acuity and color vision; employee must pass a standardized color deficiency test with a score >80%.
  • Work Environment
    :
    Laboratory environment with potential exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, biological agents, and potentially pathogenic microorganisms; occasional exposure to toxic or caustic agents; noise level quiet to moderate with occasional louder noises from equipment (e.g., autoclaves); requires strict aseptic techniques and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and eye protection.
