Radiologic Technologist - Urgent Care (West Branch)

Summary

This position is an integral part of the urgent care team and requires the ability to work effectively with providers and ancillary staff to deliver high quality, compassionate patient care. Under the direct supervision of the provider, the radiographer will be responsible for providing quality x‑rays to allow for accurate radiologic diagnosis with the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient.

This position also functions as a member of the clinical team thereby conducting patient assessments, procedures, and education in the urgent care/occupational health setting. This position requires basic knowledge of specialty and/or primary care symptom management to assess, plan, and deliver timely and appropriate care, especially in emergent situations.

Additional responsibilities include compliance with My Michigan Health policies, OSHA guidelines, CLIA regulations, and all appropriate regulatory agencies. The radiographer may be required to participate in the training of new employees, students and float staff, and may also perform general office duties such as keyboarding, filing, telephone, computer and office equipment as required. Expectations may vary slightly depending on the practice assignment.

• (25%) Performs radiographic procedures utilizing accurate application of ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, adjusting technical factors to provide appropriate exposures; complies with My Michigan Health radiology protocols.
• (25%) Positions patient and equipment appropriately, adjusting equipment to produce quality film with minimal exposure, and provides radiation protection for patients and staff during exposures.
• (25%) Greets patients and/or family, takes vital signs, obtains/reviews medical, social, surgical and medication history and allergy information, prepares patient for examination, performs procedures (in office labs: urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep screens; EKGs, TB testing, etc.) and reports results to providers.
• (10%) Accurately documents all patient information in the medical record according to current guidelines.
• (10%) Assists provider with examinations and procedures.
• (5%) Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes medical instruments.

• Clears and disinfects x‑ray room and equipment after each patient use.
• Provides a complete patient assessment, as indicated within the scope of the practice.
• May be required to demonstrate competency in additional procedures such as venipuncture, Orthopedic Casting Lab splinting, electrocardiogram, pulmonary function test, audiometry, vision testing, dressing changes, respirator fit testing, drug and alcohol testing.
• Ensures compliance with company protocols, departmental policies, MIOSHA, CLIA, Joint Commission, FMCSA guidelines.
• Performs autoclave procedure according to policy.
• Maintains a stocked, clean, sterile and safe environment; may be required to travel to satellite clinics.
• Demonstrates critical thinking for patient management.
• Maintains confidentiality and ensures patient rights in compliance with HIPAA.
• May perform clerical duties such as filling out insurance forms, correspondence, arranging hospital admission, answering the telephone, updating/filing patient records, ordering supplies and medications.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement projects and activities, including equipment, supplies and medication checks and organizational performance improvement projects.
• Ensures all Electronic Medical Record tasks are completed in a timely manner.
