Job OverviewA Senior Veterinary Pathologist is responsible for providing pathology support for nonclinical studies. The person in this role will review protocols, provide gross and microscopic examination of tissues, and evaluate and report pathology results. The individual in this role will work with sponsors, as needed, to market company services to provide customer satisfaction, with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform microscopic examinations on a wide variety of laboratory animal species, correlating findings with macroscopic, organ weight, immunohistochemical, and other findings; enter findings in data capture system.
- Assist with necropsy supervision; may conduct necropsies, including gross pathology interpretation and sample collection.
- Evaluate microscopic slides and review and interpret pathology data.
- Write comprehensive pathology reports detailing all test articles effects and correlates with other study findings; work with study directors to verify data is accurately integrated into study reports.
- Provide training, technical guidance and leadership to laboratory staff and trainees.
- Communicate effectively with management, sponsors, and coworkers in a timely manner to ensure important study or project milestones are achieved.
- Provide scientific expertise in pathology, including scientific review of research protocols, customer service to sponsors, and promote the capabilities of our company.
- Serve as a principal investigator when needed.
- Perform pathology peer reviews and participate in pathology working groups.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Workplace Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a microscope and work/type at a computer.
- Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- May work in a laboratory environment with mild to moderate noise.
- Potential exposure to chemical and/or biological hazards. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally be required to wear protective clothing (goggles, face shield, surgical mask, cap, gloves, scrubs, boots), and/or work near live animals with risk of exposure to allergens and/or zoonotic diseases.
- The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, unpleasant odors, and/or wet, humid, and/or extreme temperature conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/
Experience:
D.V.M. / V.M.D. (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree required. Ph.D. in Pathology or related discipline preferred, with minimum five years of related experience in anatomic pathology or experimental pathology.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure: American College of Veterinary Pathologists (A.C.V.P.) board-certification required.

- People leader experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to complete a significant workload without sacrificing quality and study timelines.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
- Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.
- Ability to work under specific time constraints.
The pay range for this position is $220,000 - $230,000. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
