Job Description
Purpose:
Schedules all surgeries requested
Purpose:
Schedules all surgeries requested by physicians and physician offices.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedules surgical procedures through physician offices and inter-hospital departments such as: radiology, oncology, central scheduling.
- Accurate data entry of patient information, surgical procedure, special needs: such as equipment and implants
- Daily review of schedule for accuracy and updates and adjusts accordingly
- Entering physician block schedules and building the surgery schedule in EPIC
- Efficient scheduling for block utilization
- Work closely with supply chain to notify them of special needs for case
- Schedule cases with knowledge of limited supply list to prevent conflicts
- Active participant in monthly surgery scheduling meetings
- Accuracy in assigning ICD 10 codes to diagnosis
- May need to travel to physician offices to assist with meeting scheduling expectation/needs
- Runs reports as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Will be cross trained in the Surgical Department Health Unit Coordinator role and provide coverage, as needed.
- Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of ICARE Values and Behavior Standards by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of the patient and those we serve.
- Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, physician provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPPA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPPA Privacy and Security Procedures.
- Follow established HIPPA Privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
- Maintains and protects patients' rights under the HIPPA Privacy Standards

Work Experience:
6 months experience with surgery scheduling
Education:
Preferred - Associate degree in health care related field
Specialized Knowledge and
Skills:
Completion of medical terminology test with a passing score of 80%. Strong understanding of ICD 9 and ICD 10 codes. Strong communication skills. Strong computer skills. Knowledge of EPIC. Must be self-confident and self-directed
