This position performs diagnostic testing of human, animal, and environmental specimens for Mycobacteria and fungi, including specimen processing, microscopic examination, culture testing, and identification through staining, biochemical testing, real-time PCR, and molecular methods. The role involves handling Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates, performing DNA extractions, and maintaining instrumentation while following proper protocols for dangerous pathogens and chemicals. Located in Lansing, Michigan, this permanent full-time position sits within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Keyqualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology, medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or related field
- Professional experience in microbiology activities to diagnose human disease or produce and test biological products
- Meet CLIA-88 and Medicare requirements for microbiologists/laboratory scientists
- Ability to handle dangerous pathogens and hazardous chemicals safely
- Experience with laboratory instrumentation maintenance and proper sterilization procedures
