The City of Lansing’s Human Resources Department is seeking a detail-oriented, results-driven Hiring Specialist with excellent time-management and organizational skills. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision, while also collaborating effectively as part of a team. The successful candidate will have experience in employment services and a strong understanding of human resources management principles and practices.
The role requires proficiency in administrative functions, data entry and processing, computer applications, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and resourcefulness skills are essential, as well as the ability to exercise sound judgment and adapt to changing priorities. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are necessary to ensure accuracy and timely completion of work.
The position also requires the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and integrity. - Associates Degree in Human Resources Administration, Labor Relations or a related field AND
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Human Resources work which must include recruitment, selection, EEO compliance, testing and training administration, and compensation classification processing OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience which may be considered in lieu of a Associates Degree.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point) required.
- Proficiency with Neo Gov or other applicant tracking systems preferred.
- Administers the City’s selection process function for all City departments which includes seasonal maintenance workers, fire and police departments, temporary employment and all other City departments. Works with Department Directors to meet hiring needs, which includes developing, administering, and facilitating recruitment, selection and hiring plans for vacant positions and establishing start dates for new employees.
- Provide customer service to all City employees and residents while assuring confidentiality is utilized when appropriate.
- Expertly communicates information with applicants and employees regarding job opportunities, job vacancy requirements, and selection decisions utilizing good judgment consistent with City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Responsible for reviewing and screening all job applications received; as well as entering/updating pertinent information into a spreadsheet and/or database for reporting when required by HR or Labor Relations.
- Conducts background investigations on prospective employees including but not limited to: criminal, driver’s license and employment references. Makes conditional and/or final employment offers; negotiates salaries, and arranges pre-employment physicals, start dates and new hire orientation.
- Facilitates and administers all hiring process to ensure fairness and integrity, while remaining committed to protect the City from impropriety, discrimination or bias, including roster processes that may requiring testing, scoring, background checks, and confirmation of education and certifications of candidates which include:
Clerical/Customer Services Representative/Acct. Clerk;
Part Time Revenue Collectors;
Police, Fire, Detention Officer, etc.
