Role OverviewYou will join the State of Michigan’s Department of Technology on the Enterprise Container Services team, which provides container platform support to state government agencies. This is an entry-level IT role focused on supporting a shared container environment built on Open Shift (Kubernetes-based) and used for application deployments. You will start with hands-on troubleshooting and operational support while learning from senior engineers in a large production IT environment.
Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day operational support of the enterprise container platform used by multiple state agencies for application deployments.
- Respond to and resolve support tickets related to the Open Shift Container Platform (OCP) infrastructure and underlying Linux server environment.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on container platform maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements.
- Troubleshoot container deployment issues by reviewing logs, system behavior, and configuration settings.
- Assist with tasks such as creating and managing Kubernetes name spaces and supporting container installations within Open Shift.
- Support Linux-based server operating systems, underlying hardware, and networked systems that support the container platform.
- Monitor platform health, performance, and availability to support reliable operations.
- Use Azure Dev Ops for source control and collaboration related to infrastructure-as-code and platform configuration artifacts.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical experience.
- 0-3 years of experience in IT, infrastructure, systems administration, or a related technical role.
- Basic knowledge of Linux or Unix operating systems.
- Understanding of containerization concepts and how containers are used to deploy applications.
- Exposure to Kubernetes or Red Hat Open Shift is helpful but not required.
- Any experience with automation or scripting tools, such as Ansible or Python, is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and eagerness to learn new technologies.
- Ability to communicate clearly, document work, and collaborate within a team environment.
