Role Overview

You will join the State of Michigan’s Department of Technology on the Enterprise Container Services team, which provides container platform support to state government agencies. This is an entry-level IT role focused on supporting a shared container environment built on Open Shift (Kubernetes-based) and used for application deployments. You will start with hands-on troubleshooting and operational support while learning from senior engineers in a large production IT environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day operational support of the enterprise container platform used by multiple state agencies for application deployments.
  • Respond to and resolve support tickets related to the Open Shift Container Platform (OCP) infrastructure and underlying Linux server environment.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on container platform maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot container deployment issues by reviewing logs, system behavior, and configuration settings.
  • Assist with tasks such as creating and managing Kubernetes name spaces and supporting container installations within Open Shift.
  • Support Linux-based server operating systems, underlying hardware, and networked systems that support the container platform.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, and availability to support reliable operations.
  • Use Azure Dev Ops for source control and collaboration related to infrastructure-as-code and platform configuration artifacts.
Requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical experience.
  • 0-3 years of experience in IT, infrastructure, systems administration, or a related technical role.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux or Unix operating systems.
  • Understanding of containerization concepts and how containers are used to deploy applications.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes or Red Hat Open Shift is helpful but not required.
  • Any experience with automation or scripting tools, such as Ansible or Python, is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, document work, and collaborate within a team environment.
