Position Overview
This position reports to the State Bureau Administrator as the Data Systems Services Administrator within the Department of Corrections. It oversees day‑to‑day administrative operations of the Automated Data System Services (ADSS) division, works closely with DTMB – Agency Services, DTMB leadership, other administrations, agencies and organizations outside the Department, and manages the department’s IT portfolio including the system development life cycle for enterprise data systems.
The role provides guidance to executive management on maintenance and support issues from COMS, EAMP and other enterprise systems, prioritizes new initiatives on the technology roadmap, and chairs the department’s technology EPIC team.
- Oversee day‑to‑day administrative operations of the Automated Data System Services (ADSS) division.
- Collaborate with DTMB – Agency Services, DTMB leadership, other administrations, agencies and organizations outside the Department.
- Manage the department’s IT portfolio and oversee the full system development life cycle for enterprise data systems.
- Provide guidance to executive management on maintenance and support issues from COMS, EAMP and other enterprise systems; prioritize new initiatives on the technology roadmap; and advise on significant technology changes.
- Develop spending plans, maintain the department’s information technology roadmap, and chair the technology EPIC team.
- Lead initiatives related to enterprise and internal automated solutions such as Power Apps, new technologies, artificial intelligence, Digital Records, and specialized hardware integrated with the department’s data systems.
- Ensure department policies, procedures, and leadership decisions are assessed for system impacts as new implementations or updates occur.
- Verify that COMS, EAMP, and other data systems business rules meet requirements related to applicable laws, mandates, policies and procedures.
- Develop and update policies and procedures to maintain, enhance, or implement data systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in any major.
- Alternatively, education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
- Two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience.
- New hires to the MDOC and returning employees after a two‑year absence will complete Non‑Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), either 40 or 80 hours of in‑person training, plus additional online training.
- Certain positions may require a criminal history background check.
- The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
