Job Description

This position can be hybrid for up to 50% of the pay period. The selected candidate is expected to work a minimum of the first two weeks in the office to learn the role.
This position reports to the State Bureau Administrator as the Data Systems Services Administrator. It oversees day‑to‑day administrative operations of the Automated Data System Services (ADSS) division, works closely with DTMB – Agency Services, DTMB leadership, other administrations, and external agencies. The role manages the department’s IT portfolio and all aspects of the System Development Life Cycle for enterprise data systems.
Responsibilities include providing guidance to executive management on maintenance, support, project status, technology roadmap, and changes impacting staff; developing spending plans, maintaining the IT roadmap, chairing the technology EPIC team, and overseeing initiatives related to automated solutions, new technologies, AI, Digital Records, and specialized hardware. It ensures MDOC policies, procedures, and leadership decisions are assessed for system impacts, that business rules for data systems meet applicable laws and policies, and that policies and procedures are updated to maintain or implement data systems.
- Education:
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major. - Experience:
Two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience.
- High‑school completion with three years of safety, regulatory, or law enforcement experience at level 14; or two years of such experience at level 15 may substitute for the education and experience requirements.
New hires and returning employees will complete Non‑Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) – either 40 or 80 hours of initial in‑person training based on offender contact level, plus additional online training.
Employment in the state classified service demands a high degree of loyalty and ethical standards. All employees must meet these standards and report any conflict of interest. Certain positions may require a criminal history background check, and the Department may screen applicants with felony convictions in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
