Duration: 12 months
- Onsite days:
Tuesdays and Wednesdays - Remote eligible days:
Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays - Must be local in the Lansing, Michigan area (within 90 miles)
- 3–5 years of experience in user interface (UI) design
- 3–5 years of experience conducting user research
- Degree or certification in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, User Interface Design, or a related field
- Portfolio submission required to demonstrate design skills and project experience
- 2–3 professional references required
- Experience designing in alignment with established design standards
- Knowledge of WCAG guidelines and experience designing for accessibility
- Experience conducting usability testing
- Experience performing accessibility (ADA) testing
- Understand project scope and collaborate with the team to ensure clear requirements, functionality, scalability, and usability of the IT solution.
- Adhere to the project schedule while working with the Business Analyst to examine existing business processes and systems to develop a full representation of interface design and usability.
- Work with User Acceptance Test (UAT) testers and conduct usability testing to ensure compliance with UI/UX best practices.
- Appropriately resolve critical IT issues related to the UI/UX role.
- Participate in all requirement gathering meetings and brainstorm sessions with business owners to identify product usability concerns and desires.
- Conduct user interviews, research, observations, and testing as needed, and develop personas, user flows/journey maps, and storyboards.
- Facilitate regular design meetings during application development.
- Examine and analyze current user flows and processes, identify pain points, and deliver solutions from a usability and visual standpoint.
- Lead overall visual design, usability, and accessibility of the product.
- Advocate for the end user and continually work to improve overall design and usability.
- Create sketches, wireframes, and mockups of user interface screens according to user stories, State of Michigan (SOM) applications and site standards, and ADA requirements.
- Create high‑fidelity functioning prototypes when applicable.
- Review wireframes with the Business Analyst and Technical Lead before presenting to business.
- Provide resources (checklists and toolsets) to assist the development team with UI/UX best practices, coding standards, and ADA vulnerability remediation.
- Ensure conformance to SOM applications and site standards.
- Perform accessibility testing to meet ADA requirements.
- Create and facilitate usability tests with intended users and iterate designs accordingly.
- Advise developers on accessibility requirements and vulnerability remediation.
- Serve as liaison to the DTMB Center for Shared Solutions (CSS) eMichigan team.
