DTS is looking for a UI/UX Designer

Location:

Lansing, MI. The UI/UX Analyst role is responsible for establishing the overall application look and feel, designing, communicating, and executing all user interface screens for each business requirement. This role works closely with the Business Analyst and Technical Lead to deliver solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements.

Top Skills & Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in user interface (UI) design
  • 3-5 years of experience conducting user research
  • Degree or certification in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, User Interface Design, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing in alignment with established design standards
  • Knowledge of WCAG guidelines and experience designing for accessibility
  • Experience conducting usability testing
  • Experience performing accessibility (ADA) testing
Responsibilities
  • Understand project scope and collaborate with the project team to clarify requirements, functionality, scalability, and usability.
  • Ensure adherence to the project schedule while developing interface designs that meet business processes.
  • Work with UAT testers and conduct usability testing to ensure conformance with UI/UX best practices.
  • Resolve critical UI/UX related issues.
  • Participate in requirement gathering meetings and brainstorming sessions with business owners.
  • Conduct user interviews, research, observations and testing; develop personas, user flows/journey maps, and storyboards.
  • Facilitate design meetings during application development.
  • Analyze current user flows, pain points, and desired outcomes to propose solutions.
  • Lead visual design, usability and accessibility, guiding the team through design patterns, screen layout decisions, and usability testing.
  • Advocate for end users to improve overall design and usability.
  • Produce sketches, wireframes, mockups, and high‑fidelity prototypes following State of Michigan (SOM) Applications and Site Standards and ADA requirements.
  • Review wireframes with Business Analyst for business requirements and with Technical Lead for feasibility before presenting to stakeholders.
  • Provide resources (checklists, toolsets) to support UI/UX best practices, coding standards, and ADA remediation.
  • Ensure conformance to SOM standards and perform accessibility testing per ADA requirements.
  • Facilitate usability tests, iterate designs based on feedback.
  • Advise developers on accessibility and remediation.
  • Act as liaison with DTMB Center for Shared Solutions (CSS) eMichigan team.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in user interface (UI) design
  • 3-5 years of experience conducting user research
  • Degree or certification in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, User Interface Design, or a related field
  • Portfolio submission required to demonstrate design skills and project experience
  • 2-3 professional references required
