Overview
A staff attorney in the Corporate Oversight Division (COD) handles routine legal assignments. On occasion, a staff attorney may handle some legal assignments that are more complex with a number of variables. The staff attorney, under the supervision of his/her Section Head, drafts formal and informal legal opinions and provides legal representation to state departments, as well as agencies, commissions, boards and staff within these departments.
The legal representation includes administrative proceedings and civil litigation in both state and federal courts, including appellate courts.
A senior level attorney in COD is expected to routinely handle sensitive and complex legal assignments and provide legal representation to state departments, as well as agencies, commissions, boards and staff within these departments. The Senior level attorney is expected to review, assess, work‑up and try cases in state and federal court and in administrative forums. A Senior level attorney assists in the coordination of activities and/or formal or informal mentoring of less experienced staff by serving as a resource person.
The employee requires less supervision than a 15 level attorney, but is expected to keep clients and supervisors advised as to the status of all matters he/she is handling. The Senior level attorney, under the supervision of his/her Section Head, drafts formal and informal legal opinions and handles routine and complex appellate matters, including issues of constitutionality or first impression.
Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.
