OverviewDue to resignation, Roscommon County is seeking to appoint a qualified candidate to the position of Prosecuting Attorney. Appointment to position is through December 31, 2026. The successful candidate, if a qualified and registered elector in Roscommon County, may seek election to the position.
Individuals interested in this position are advised that the Roscommon County Prosecutor position is a partisan position and will appear on the August 4th, 2026 Primary Election, and November 3rd, 2026 General Election ballots.
Scope Of DutiesThe Prosecuting Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer for the County and represents the People of the State of Michigan in the prosecution of misdemeanor and felony cases in the courts. Additionally, this position represents the People of the State of Michigan in juvenile delinquency cases, child abuse and neglect proceedings, and other miscellaneous hearings in the Family and Probate Courts.
The Prosecutor is responsible for daily management of up to two Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys, as well as department budget compliance and supervision and training of office staff. Performs various other functions as prescribed by statute.
- Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan
- Member in good standing with the Michigan State Bar
- Valid Michigan Driver’s license
- Experience in prosecutorial practice, criminal law and/or complex civil matters preferred
- Individual must be a Roscommon County resident upon oath of office

An Affidavit of Identity along with the required filing fee or petitions bearing a sufficient number of valid signatures must be filed with the Roscommon County Clerk by the appropriate deadline. The filing deadline for the August 4th Primary Election is April 21st, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. An individual interested in filing No Party Affiliation may file to appear on the November 3rd, 2026 General Election ballot no later than July 16th, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.
To Gain Access To Appear On The Ballot Candidates Must Be “qualified And Registered” Electors In The Jurisdiction In Which They Are Filing For Office. To Register To Vote In Michigan, a Person Must Be All Of The Following:
- A Michigan resident at the time the person registers to vote
- A resident of the city or township in which the person is registering to vote for at least 30 days when the person appears to vote
- A United States citizen
- At least 17.5 years old, and at least 18 years old on or by the election in which the person votes
- Not currently serving a sentence in jail or prison
For voter registration purposes, a person’s residence is the place at which a person habitually sleeps, keeps their personal effects, and has a regular place of lodging.
