We are seeking a mid-to-senior level Estate and Business Succession Planning Attorney to join the thriving Private Client Services group of a premier Michigan-based law firm.

This is a high-visibility opportunity to work alongside seasoned partners counseling business owners, high-net-worth families, executives and corporate leadership on comprehensive wealth transfer, tax mitigation, and business continuity strategies. The role offers significant personal autonomy, a sophisticated caseload, and an established internal cross-referral pipeline across corporate, real estate, and litigation practice groups.

• Conduct deep-dive client consultations to identify core family, financial, and business goals.
• Structure and draft customized estate planning instruments, including Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Wills, Financial Powers of Attorney, Healthcare Directives, and Asset Protection Vehicles.
• Formulate and draft business succession documentation, including Buy-Sell Agreements, Family Limited Partnerships (FLPs), LLC Operating Agreements, and governance structures.
• Advise clients on complex estate, gift, Generation-Skipping Transfer (GST), and fiduciary income tax strategies.
• Design and implement charitable planning vehicles, including Charitable Remainder/Lead Trusts (CRATs/CRUTs) and private foundations.
• Counsel business owners on tax-efficient transfer strategies to pass ownership to next-generation leaders or third-party buyers.
• Oversee probate proceedings, trust settlements, and formal/informal estate administration.
• Guide individual and corporate fiduciaries through their duties and legal responsibilities.
• Assist in the preparation and review of Federal Estate Tax Returns (Form 706), Gift Tax Returns (Form 709), and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns (Form 1041), representing clients in probate court hearings when required.
• Manage, cultivate, and strengthen relationships with existing firm clients and external advisor networks (CPAs, financial advisors, family offices).
• Actively participate in firm business development initiatives to further expand the firm's private client footprint across the region.

• J.D. from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in Michigan (or eligible for immediate admission/reciprocity).
• 4+ years of focused experience handling complex estate planning, tax analysis, probate administration, and business succession planning.
• A portable book of business is welcome and supported,

• Advanced proficiency in estate and gift tax law and legal research tools.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and client-facing presentation skills.
• Strong project management capabilities with the ability to manage complex multi-party matters independently.
• Sound, independent legal judgment with minimal supervision needed.
