Heavy Equipment Mechanic
The City of Lansing is seeking a skilled Vehicle Maintenance Worker Trainee to join the Fleet Services Division. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with their hands and providing excellent service to maintain and repair various vehicles and equipment. The City offers a competitive wage and benefit package including paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan CDL License, Group B, with air brakes and N Endorsement or obtain this license within 90 days of hire.
- Must participate in MDOT Drug & Alcohol program.
- Must participate in Hepatitis B inoculation program.
- Must participate in Industrial Truck Training and Certification.
- Must participate in Respirator Certification.
- Must participate in Confined Space Training.
- Must participate in Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
- Must pass LEIN/Law Enforcement Information Network (Fingerprinting).
- Requires overtime for emergencies and other work assignments.
POST-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
- Complete the Mechanic Trainee Program by obtaining State Certification Master Heavy, Level I, and ASE Master Medium/Heavy Certification, Level II.
- Proficient in welding and fabrication.
- Proficient in repairing Sweeper, Packer, Dump truck, Aerial Platform Trucks, Firetrucks, and Medic trucks.
- Will be evaluated periodically by the Fleet Manager until the training program is satisfactorily completed.
- Must complete the training program within two years of starting the position.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of experience in preventative maintenance of vehicles, trucks, and various equipment.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Perform preventive maintenance on City vehicles and equipment using hand and power tools.
- Assist in receiving, inspecting, and stocking parts and supplies.
- Change tires on Fleet vehicles using manual or automatic equipment.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed on computer work orders.
- Use cutting and welding equipment following safety procedures.
- Deliver trucks, vehicles, parts, and supplies as directed.
