Position: Departmental Manager 14 (MSI Sales Manager)

This position has the ability to be a hybrid position for up to 50% of the pay period. The selected candidate is expected to work a minimum of the first two weeks in the office to assist in learning the position.

This position will provide direct supervision and operational oversight for all MDOC factory sales and marketing. This position oversees staff assigned to Marketing and Sales, as well as expansion efforts in the services market. This position oversees development and implementation of goals and objectives as outlined by MSI Administration, by using modern management methods, Lean principles, strategic planning and computer technology.

This position ensures the future success of MSI by building positive relationships with customers while working to grow MSI manufacturing opportunities with current and new prospective business partners in a competitive market. The Sales Manager is empowered to make suggestions related to staffing, equipment, building use, raw materials, product lines and production schedules, and focuses on Building Bridges to Success through MSI’s division values of PARTNERSHIP.

Frequent travel to various operations will be required, travel to customers throughout the State of Michigan, travel to attend MSI Trade Shows and Conferences (in state and out of state). Direct prisoner contact and/or supervision are possible.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience

Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Alternative experience qualifications of nonprofessional experience, previously identified by the appointing authority and approved by Civil Service, will be accepted as a substitute for the required classified, professional experience for the classification. The nonprofessional experience must be related to departmental programs and services that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Individuals appointed must possess the department-specific alternative experience for positions within that agency only.

MDOC

Experience ONLY

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree and the experience listed below OR two additional years of the stated experience to substitute for the degree.

Two years of MDOC experience as an Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11, Corrections Shift Supervisor 11, Departmental Supervisor 11, Food Services Supervisor 11, Corrections Shift Supervisor 12, Departmental Supervisor 12, Fire Safety Supervisor 12, Industries Supervisor 12, or Medical Records Examiner Supervisor 12.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.

All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
