Position: Service Line Leader (DWSD Internal Only) (Maintenance and Repair)

DESCRIPTION

This is not a Civil Service Position. DWSD employees are subject to provisions of Court Orders entered in United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, Case No. 77-71100 with regard to certain terms and conditions of employment. DWSD does not honor reversion rights for internal candidates. Applicants for open positions at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

SUMMARY

Service Line Leader is responsible for supervising, guiding, directing, and training staff within the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) Meter Operations functional unit. Manage work on projects and assign and prioritize tasks. Responsible for completing all local, State, Federal and DWSD required reports.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Responsible for maximizing team’s productivity
  • Manage annual department budget items as assigned
  • Responsible for record keeping and preparing necessary reports that include logs and computer files
  • Assist in the training of department staff and maintaining
  • Provide ongoing safety and injury prevention programs
  • Attend meetings
  • Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures
  • Prepare performance evaluations of assigned team
  • Perform shift work which includes all day, afternoon, night, weekend and holiday assignments
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties
RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in disaster preparedness
  • Assign shifts, work weeks, holiday coverage, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision, including selection, work planning, organization, performance
  • review and evaluation, employee development, and employee training and discipline
  • Project management principles and practices
  • Operating procedures
  • Safe work practices
  • Budgeting and metrics
  • Industry standards within the water and sewerage industry
  • Federal, State and local regulatory guidelines

  • Perform administrative duties and solve administrative issues
  • Assist in creating and maintaining the budget for the unit
  • Implement principles of supervision, training and employee development
