Job Responsibilities

Leads, supports, and prioritizes the activities of production for all department-based teams. Guide, mentor, and lead process techs. Ensures that products produced meet the customer needs in cost, quality, and delivery. Maintains a safe work environment. Monitors department schedule and adjusts changeover priorities to meet production demands. Controls labor and adjusts workload to support required manning. Tracks team performance, attendance, and daily activities.

Ensures all team goals are met in support of departmental KPI. Provides weekend work schedules to all team members. Participates in continuous improvement activities in support of the Magna Production System.

Key Functions & Responsibilities
  • Assists lead process techs and auditors in establishing quality standards and checks. Applies principles of statistical process control when appropriate and identifies opportunities for mistake proofing.
  • Anticipates safety, quality and productivity problems and takes immediate action to correct unsafe conditions or actions. Ensures employees are trained to recognize hazards, holds monthly team meetings, performs safety inspections, and leads accident/incident investigations. Promotes 5S and supports all TPM activities. Conducts performance appraisals of workers.
  • Staffs to support department schedule and quoted targets. Maintains vacation, overtime, and break relief schedules. Analyzes weekly/monthly production performance reports and initiates appropriate action. Monitors schedule and ensures compliance using standardized work.
  • Presents new information to large and small groups. Administers and applies company policy consistently. Provides constructive feedback and orients new team members on processes, policies, and people. Maintains and develops team morale.
  • Monitors performance goals and adjusts. Leads problem solving teams and applies data analysis tools.
  • Performs daily audits as directed by System Assurance and directs Break Relief/Auditors to drive quality and operator performance.
  • Supports weekend overtime and crew manning. All quality checks, audits, etc. adhered to.
  • Completes end-of-shift paperwork, scrap entry, audit checks, etc.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Uses the Magna Employee Charter as a guideline for fair treatment of all employees.
  • Provides daily end-of-shift reports summarizing all relevant activities.
  • Responds promptly to all problems, documents them, resolves when possible, and follows up with appropriate groups.

Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a departmental operations Production Lead or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills to work with internal/external contacts at all organisation levels and represent the company professionally.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop others through support and training; manage staff toward departmental goals (short‑term).
  • Successful completion of basic quantitative and verbal tests.
  • Leadership skills to manage multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Motivates team toward moderate‑term goals.
  • Understanding of department scheduling, BAAN system, and basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of TPM and support teams.
  • Ability to hold meetings and convey team goals.
  • Ability to adapt changes to business objectives and support balancing of team and company goals.
  • Strong dependability with proven attendance record.
  • Completion of required training within the first six months:
    Job Instruction Training, Standardized Work Training, Fact‑Based Problem Solving, Ergonomic Training, HR 101.
