Position Summary
Morbark's Manufacturing Engineer position works as part of the operations team to improve designs for manufacturing as well as improve communication between engineering and production. Manufacturing Engineers work under minimal supervision, independently prepare, conduct, and evaluate analyses for planning process implementation of new or modified product designs to the factory. The Manufacturing Engineer will also lead problem solving for manufacturing issues as they relate to the design of components as well as supporting legacy components.
Duties/Responsibilities- Perform technical analysis of manufacturing processes to support management decisions.
- Design/direct the acquisition, design, fabrication, and repair of all necessary tooling and machines.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day process performance issues, develop solutions, and monitor improvements.
- Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of manufacturing best practices, product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, test methods, and quality control standards.
- Validate process cycle times by conducting time studies.
- Provide day-to-day coaching duties in absence of team leader.
- Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements.
- Determine manufacturing time and cost of new assemblies.
- Work with suppliers to determine product specifications and conformance to quality standards, and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts.
- Prior experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Metal Forming/Welding/Fabrications experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
- Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Effectively establish understanding and communicate with individuals at multiple levels of the organization including shop floor and office.
- Experience in conducting time studies.
- Formal problem‑solving training/skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead courageously, maintaining a strong position amidst opposition to resolve important issues and navigate through complexity.
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Business agility to manage complexity, change, and uncertainty. Flexible; nimble.
- Hands‑on, energetic, and a "can do" attitude.
- Honest, reliable, and ethical.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 3–5 years of manufacturing engineering related experience required.
- Experience working with 3D Modeling (Solid Edge, Solid Works, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
- Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings.
- Weld design experience – CWI preferred.
