Job Title: 2 nd shift Prototype Weld Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Prototype Weld Supervisor for 2 nd shift is responsible for leading daily welding and fabrication activities within a small prototype environment. This role is hands‑on and ensures prototype parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with customer specifications, quality standards, and delivery timelines. The supervisor works closely with engineering, design, and production teams to support rapid development and problem‑solving.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the fabrication and welding of prototype parts, fixtures, and assemblies
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and weld symbols
  • Assist in developing weld processes for new or unique parts
  • Ensure all welds and assemblies meet customer specifications and internal standards
  • Perform visual inspections and coordinate any required rework
  • Collaborate with engineering/design to resolve fit‑up or design issues
  • Enforce welding safety standards, PPE usage, and safe work practices
  • Identify hazards and maintain a safe, organized work environment
  • Recommend improvements to welding techniques, fixturing, and workflow
  • Support continuous improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost control
  • Coordinate with engineering, prototype management, and other departments
  • Communicate job status, challenges, and timelines clearly
  • Occasionally interact with customers or support project discussions
  • Ensure proper use and upkeep of welding equipment and tools
  • Coordinate basic maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Uses ERP (plex) to monitor adjust and approve time clock records and manage time off management.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Supervise and support a small team of welders and fabricators
  • Assign and prioritize work based on prototype schedules and job kick‑offs
  • Provide hands‑on assistance with complex or critical weldments

  • Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding (steel, stainless, and/or aluminum)
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and understand weld symbols
  • Experience with fixturing, layout, and prototype problem‑solving
  • Familiarity with basic fabrication equipment (grinders, saws, etc.)

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Welding certifications (AWS or equivalent) preferred but not required.
  • At least 5 years’ related experience required.
  • 3–5 years of welding/fabrication experience (prototype or low‑volume preferred)
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a shop environment preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
