Automotive Sewing Quality Supervisor
LOCATION:
Lansing, MI SHIFT: 1st Shift JOB SUMMARY
MS Companies is hiring a hands-on Quality Supervisor to oversee quality operations within an automotive manufacturing environment in Lansing, MI. This position will supervise quality inspectors, coordinate daily workflow, address quality concerns, and ensure the team meets customer expectations for safety, productivity, and workmanship.
Candidates must have experience operating sewing machines and performing hand sewing. Experience with automotive seat covers, trim, upholstery, or similar textile products is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be comfortable inspecting sewn products, identifying defects, coaching employees, and working with production and customer teams to resolve quality concerns.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS- 2 to 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience, preferably overseeing a team of 5 or more employees
- Sewing machine experience required
- Hand-sewing experience required
- Ability to identify sewing defects, including skipped stitches, loose threads, uneven seams, incorrect stitching, material damage, and other workmanship concerns
- Experience in automotive manufacturing, quality inspection, upholstery, textiles, or a related assembly environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to train employees, manage daily priorities, and hold team members accountable
- Ability to review quality and performance data and support process improvements
- Comfortable working on the production floor and leading by example
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
- Supervise quality inspectors and coordinate daily assignments for 1st shift
- Inspect sewn automotive products for workmanship, appearance, measurements, stitching, and customer specifications
- Use sewing machine and hand-sewing knowledge to evaluate defects, demonstrate proper methods, and support rework
- Monitor attendance, productivity, quality performance, and compliance with safety requirements
- Train and coach employees on inspection standards, sewing quality, defect identification, and work procedures
- Communicate quality concerns, production issues, and staffing needs to leadership
- Investigate defects and help determine the cause of sewing or assembly issues
- Coordinate containment, sorting, rework, and corrective actions as needed
- Maintain accurate inspection records, production reports, and quality documentation
- Work with customer representatives, production teams, and internal leadership to resolve concerns
- Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce defects, rework, and customer complaints
- Promote accountability, teamwork, safety, and consistent quality throughout the department
This position requires standing and walking for extended periods in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Employees may also be required to bend, reach, lift materials as needed, perform repetitive hand movements, operate sewing equipment, and work around active production areas.
