Marketing Communications Coordinator

Essential functions (job duties):

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator plays a key role in shaping the visibility, voice, and audience engagement of the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance. This position is responsible for planning and executing marketing and communications efforts that support student recruitment, audience development, and community connection. Working closely with faculty, staff, students, and college-level partners, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator ensures that all departmental messaging is clear, consistent, timely, and reflective of the department’s artistic excellence college branding guidelines.

Marketing Strategy and Planning

Partner with the Director of Communication and Enrollment Management and Department Chair to develop, implement, and manage all departmental marketing initiatives, including execution of designated components of the departmental Marketing Plan.

Serve as the primary marketing lead for all production-related campaigns, including:

Season productions

The Companies (including Company One, To Sangana, and Motor City Cabaret)

Group sales marketing and outreach

Student Matinee campaigns

Creative and Content Development

Coordinate the development and distribution of print and digital marketing materials, including but not limited to:

Postcards and other print collateral

Playbills and production programs

Email communications and newsletters

Digital signage and paid advertising

Graphic design assets

Photography and video content

Social media platforms

Department website content and updates

Manage review processes, approvals, and sign-offs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with college and university brand standards.

Event and Academic Program Support

Collaborate with faculty to support marketing and promotional efforts for student-centered and academic events, including:

Recruitment support

Student Stage productions

Capstone projects

BFA Senior Showcase

Other annual or recurring departmental events

Partnerships and Collaboration

Coordinate partnership opportunities and share relevant information with appropriate internal partners, including:

Box Office

CFPCA communications team

Development and alumni engagement teams

Foster effective collaboration across units to support ticket sales, fundraising, new student recruitment and audience outreach goals.

Supervision and Team Management

Mentor student assistants and students enrolled in the undergraduate theatre management course, providing guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback.

Oversee student marketing team members to ensure deadlines are met and materials are delivered on schedule.

Manage in-house student graphic designers and external vendors to ensure the timely production of high-quality, effective marketing materials.

Analytics and Assessment

Monitor and analyze campaign performance using website analytics, social media metrics, and other marketing data.

Use insights and data trends to inform strategy, improve outreach, and strengthen engagement across audiences.

Perform other related duties as assigned in support of departmental, college, and university objectives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, arts administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience planning and executing integrated marketing campaigns across print and digital platforms.

Experience supervising, mentoring, or training students or entry-level staff.
