Youth Work, a program of Child & Family Services, develops young adults and their local communities through conservation, skilled trades, and other service activities.
Crews consist of 2-5 Ameri Corps members ages 17-26+ and an adult Crew Leader. Crews typically serve 32-40 hours per week (Monday-Thursday), with the potential for some overnight camping trips. Crews go out into their local community and complete various types of projects for nonprofits and government agencies.
Responsibilities- trail development, rehab, or improvements
- river/waterway improvements or treatment
- removal of invasive species
- riparian habitat improvements
- historic preservation
- blight cleanup
- improvements/repair/rehab of local public lands and parks
- other environmental and conservation projects.
Members receive a living stipend bi-weekly via direct deposit into their bank accounts while enrolled as Ameri Corps members. The amount of the living stipend varies based on the members term length and is divided evenly by the number of weeks in the members term (somewhat similar to the way a salary is paid).
Minimum-Time (300-hour) members will receive a total of $4,500 paid bi-weekly in even amounts over the course of their term. Quarter-Time (450-hour) will receive a total living stipend of $6,750;
Reduced-Half-Time (675-hour) members will receive a total of $10,125;
Half Time (900 –hour) members will receive $13,500; and Three Quarter Time (1200 hours) members will receive $18,000 stipend.
Members who successfully complete all requirements during their term of service will be eligible for the Segal Ameri Corps Education Award outlined in the Member Service Agreement. Qualifying members may be eligible for student loan forbearance and/or interest payments. Members also benefit from increased job and life skills, making a difference in their community, being part of a dedicated service team, and connection to the Ameri Corps network.
