Job Description

The Community Volunteer Engagement Senior Specialist mobilizes regional teams of volunteers to deliver impactful missions across Red Cross lines of service. This role will grow local community volunteer capacity and design new volunteer opportunities to meet mission, community, and evolving volunteer needs. The specialist will work as a player/coach, directly engaging volunteers and supporting volunteer specialists across the region to meet mission needs in their areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage volunteers for episodic/event-based opportunities
  • Collaborate with volunteer leadership committees
  • Coordinate Home Fire Campaign activities
  • Oversee Restoring Family Links community outreach
  • Coordinate veteran programs at regional Veteran Administration facilities
  • Liaise with community programming leads to understand and meet workforce needs
  • Manage community services volunteer visibility and engagement of internal volunteers, youth groups, and partners in chapter opportunities
  • Design and share new and non-traditional volunteer opportunity types to mobilize the community
  • Manage volunteer workforce systems and processes to ensure full staffing for recurrent and one‑time community services
  • Support organizational learning and adoption of new volunteer opportunities with line of business
  • Provide data and reporting on community services volunteer impact and program/process improvement
  • Directly lead volunteer teams locally and regionally, and support peers across the region who may lead local volunteer teams
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience; volunteer management experience preferred.
  • Strong teamwork, oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple evolving priorities.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of group dynamics, customer maintenance techniques, negotiation skills, and effective program implementation.
  • Travel may be required.

  • Volunteer management experience: recruiting, coordinating, training volunteers, fostering engagement and accountability.
  • Collaborative team player with strong stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication across diverse audiences.
  • Presentation skills: create and deliver engaging presentations tailored to audience and objectives.
  • Relationship building: develop trust‑based relationships with volunteers, partners, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Technical proficiency:
    Microsoft Office Suite and relevant systems/tools for operations and reporting.

Physical Requirements

The role requires frequent sitting, using hands to handle or feel, talking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms, occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Lifting up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 30 pounds occasionally is required. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Work environment includes moderate noise typical of a business office.
