CANVASSING FELLOWSHIP MANAGER
LOCATION: Lansing, MI
ANNUAL COMPENSATION: $60,000
RETENTION BONUS: $1,500 (must remain on staff through Nov 20th, 2026)
POSITION DURATION: This position is considered temporary and will conclude on November 20, 2026.
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARYManage a team of Canvassing Fellows to execute an electoral canvassing program focused on promoting civic engagement in targeted Michigan communities. Lead training, data integration, and team culture to achieve high‑energy canvassing aligned with the organization’s justice‑oriented mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Interview, recruit, and retain Canvassing Fellows for the 2026 election cycle.
- Plan and facilitate new employee orientations.
- Launch and oversee daily canvasses in assigned regions with a diverse staff of ten or more Fellows and a Lead.
- Ensure canvass integrity by shadowing canvassers.
- Plan and execute daily stand‑up meetings to maintain a healthy team culture.
- Collaborate with the data team to set voter contact goals and strategies.
- Create agendas for regular meetings with the Canvass Management and Planning Teams.
- Manage inventory of electoral equipment and electronic devices.
- Develop and improve training materials for Fellows and Managers including use of the VAN and reporting tools.
- Collect multimedia (stories, videos, photos) for promotion.
- Attend monthly staff development trainings.
- Assist in voter targeting strategy and outreach tactics.
- Transition new and activated leaders to permanent organizers at election’s end.
- Commitment to the organization’s theory of change and commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- A passion for developing leadership skills of others.
- Experience managing culturally, religiously, and economically diverse staff.
- Experience organizing campaigns or electoral canvassing.
- Experience with VAN and Google Suite.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Effective communication skills and comfort working with the public.
- Reliable transportation and ability to drive to canvassing locations.
- Data‑capable smartphone and familiarity with MiniVAN.
- High energy, highly organized, self‑starter capable of executing plans and implementing creative solutions to problems.
- Optional:
Ability to work with a team to achieve a common goal, multilingual (particularly Spanish and Arabic), and committed to meeting deadlines.
In‑person door‑to‑door canvassing program; regular meetings and events. Standard business hours with flexibility; evenings and weekends occasionally required.
BENEFITS- Health insurance and a $1,200/year Health Savings Account or monthly health insurance stipend after 90 days.
- Individual Retirement Account (IRA) after earning at least $5,000 in the preceding two years.
- Internet stipend of $34.62 and phone stipend of $23.08 per pay period.
